Research unit of Sustainable Chemistry

The research unit of Sustainable Chemistry work with chemical (catalytical) modification of biomass to new chemicals and materials, new biomass-based water purification materials (adsorbents), chemical methods (such as catalytic wet air oxidation, electrocoagulation) in industrial wastewater treatment and inorganic analytical methods.  In addition, energy production and storage materials for solar cells and lithium ion batteries are also studied.


Research in the unit of Sustainable Chemistry is applied chemistry and it has been divided three main research focus:

1) Biomass conversion to added-value products, especially catalysis in biomass modification and novel biomass-based water purification materials

2) Novel adsorbents in water treatment, chemical coagulation/elecrocoagulation and catalytic wet air oxidation

3) Development of new energy production and storage materials, especially lithium ion batteries and solar cells

In addition, research focus development inorganic analytical methods to the previously mentioned focus areas and industrial processes.


The personnel of Research unit of Sustainable Chemistry provides education in the degree program of chemistry.  Student can do master theses, bachelor theses and research project in the research unit.
