The discontinuation of the Business Kitchen brand is based on the evolved needs of the institutes of higher education and businesses in the Oulu region as well as the increasing will of multiple stakeholders to take on more responsibility of developing entrepreneurship in the area. Entrepreneurial education is integrated into the basic education in higher education in Oulu and as such it will reach a wider audience of students.
”Promoting entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial education is important for the University. Lots of good educational content has been established in Business Kitchen that is now a part of higher education offered in Oulu. It is important to remember that even though the Business Kitchen brand is ending, its activities are not. However, it is likely that the concepts and their implementation will change,” remarks Johanna Bluemink, Director at the University of Oulu.
“Programmes like the Avanto Accelerator, Oulu Business School Entrepreneurship minor, Terwa-akatemia entrepreneurship education, Kickstart business idea competition, and sOULUtions -hackathon have started in Business Kitchen. These activities will continue to be an integral part of the entrepreneurial and career -related content organized in the institutes of higher education in Oulu,” adds Jouko Isokangas, Development Manager at Oulu University of Applied Sciences.
The connection between students, businesses, and job seekers will be facilitated in Tellus Linnanmaa and Tellus Kontinkangas, as well as BusinessAsema opening on Hallituskatu in February of 2020. BusinessAsema is an open meeting place and platform aiming to promote entrepreneurship, employment, cooperation, and innovation. The spaces at BusinessAsema can be used for events, workshops, and trainings.
”BusinessAsema will act as an easily approachable collaboration platform for businesses, entrepreneurs, and students to meet in the context of entrepreneurial events,” says Jarmo Lauronen, Head of Business Services in BusinessOulu.
The first steps of cooperation between BusinessAsema and the institutes of higher education in Oulu will be to combine the communication channels related to entrepreneurial activities. The aim is to facilitate the development of entrepreneurship in Northern Ostrobothnia.
The business cooperation and innovation services of the institutes of higher education will be organized by the University Innovation Centre, that offers the universities’ services and collaboration to the private sector.
