13.–14.12.2018 Pragmatics, Play and Theory of Mind – Development through interaction (5 ECTS points)
13.–14.12.2018 (9–14; lunch break and a couple of short breaks in both days; we start at 9:15), University of Oulu (Linnamaa campus, lecture hall SÄ111)

Aims and contents: Children’s understanding of the social context of communication is developed in a complex interactional environment. This course aims to introduce a number of relevant themes in the realistic context of family, education, and therapy, and to relate these to the relevant literature. The focus will be on practical activities and participation, including making and discussing observations, sharing readings with peers, and devising activities.
The following themes and forms of participation will be included:
- Read and discuss relevant literature
- Analyse video and relate it to theory
- Reflect on cultural variation, and child rearing styles
- Make and reflect on “live” observations (home, classroom, therapeutic setting?)
- Carry out practical tasks and devise activities
- Relate what is learned to own development in childhood
Group teaching 10 hours, 80% participation required in group teaching. Reflective diary/portfolio, to be written in Finnish (or English). More information about the course will be given during the first lesson.
