The University of Oulu improved its ranking by nine places in the new QS World University Rankings.
A section for doctoral students in the University of Oulu has been established by the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY). The decision was made based on a proposal by a general meeting of doctoral students held on August 29th.

The University of Oulu also participates in two other national Centres of Excellence in research.
The University of Oulu will reorganize its research and education activities into nine fields of science, four research focus area organizations, and separate units.
5th International Open Ubiquitous City Seminar 2013 is a non-fee public seminar, to be held on Monday, 10th of June, 2013, 9:00-13:00, at the Oulu City Theatre, Kaarlenväylä 2. It features distinguished international experts addressing ubiquitous computing and urban informatics from multiple perspectives. It also provides an update of the Open Ubiquitous Oulu.
