Coronavirus COVID-19 – current issues
We are continuously updating this page with information about the coronavirus and the University of Oulu's guidelines. For more detailed instructions for staff regarding for example arrangements of working and teaching, please refer to the intranet Patio.
From Thursday May 14 onwards it is possible to organize individual events or courses in the premises of the University, taking into account the safety and distance instructions. In the summertime, distance teaching is favoured but teaching can be arranged on the campus, taking into account the safety and distance instructions. In autumn, the first study period between August 1 and October 25, 2020 is organized mainly remotely. The orientation for new students will happen in small groups on campus.
Beginning from June 1, 2020 students can access to campuses with their 24/7 access card Mon-Fri between 8-17 o'clock (Linnanmaa: main door 2T and door A3 on the south side of the glass gateway, Kontinkangas: door 7A).
Oulu University Library lending has been opened June 1. Otherwise, guests should note that spending time in the premises of the University is restricted for the present. See the opening hours at Library's homepage.
University staff can work in the premises of the University from May 14 onwards in tasks that can not be done remotely. When working in the university premises, strict distance and hygiene instructions must be followed. It is recommended that meetings are arranged as web meetings. In other meetings, safety distance of at least 2 meters must be kept.
Information about opening hours of campus restaurants can be found on restaurants' homepages.

- Discard used handkerchief in the trash as soon as you can and always wash your hands after blowing your nose.
What to do if you suspect a coronavirus infection
The COVID-19 sampling criteria have changed in Finland (THL 15.4.2020). An effort will be made to increase testing where possible. In the future, the goal is to test everyone suspected of having a coronavirus infection. Asymptomatics are not tested.
If you have symptoms of a mild respiratory infection such as rhinitis, cough, sore throat, myalgia or fever, rest at home. If you suspect coronavirus infection, you can seek a doctor for the diagnosis and for the evaluation of the need for sampling. Do not take ill children to daycare or grandparents. This protects the elderly and other particularly susceptible to coronavirus.
Contact the hospital by telephone to prevent the disease from spreading to others. The health guidance helpline for the Oulu region is 08 315 2655.
