Digital solutions in sensing and interactions

We explore how digitalisation can work for everyone, including sensing and ubiquitous wireless sensor systems, wireless communication, and other novel services and systems. The research targets future information infrastructures and integrates aspects of technology adoption by complex human groups, communities and societies.

Multidisciplinary research activities in the focus area are coordinated by the Infotech Oulu. Research is conducted mainly in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

The University of Oulu’s infrastructures are high-class research infrastructures serving a wide customer base with an open access policy. Fab Lab Oulu is a small digital manufacturing working area (fabrication laboratory) that complies with open innovation concept developed by MIT in the United States. In Fab Lab it is possible to design your own product or hardware from the scratch. 5G Test Network facilities offer unique possibilities for testing your 5G technology, components or new services in real time. With its two neighbouring locations at the University of Oulu and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, 5GTN caters for the most demanding needs for 5G trials.
