The University of Oulu has retained its rank among the 500 top universities in the world. The University of Oulu is currently ranked at 301-400 in the ARWU Ranking, formerly known as the Shanghai list.
"Being ranked in the top 500 shows how the University of Oulu has remained efficient even when the university reform and the changes it brought about have taken so much time and recources away from our researchers" says University rector Lauri Lajunen.
Lajunen points out that there are 45 000 universities in the world. "A high position in this distinguished ranking is important for the international functions of the University. This makes it easier for us to receive good foreign partners, students and researchers, espceially in Asia", says Rector Lajunen.
Among Finnish universities also the universities of Helsinki, Jyväskylä and Eastern Finland remained in the top 500 list, whereas Aalto University failed to make the list this year. Overall, Harvard remained at number one, and Cambridge was the highest ranked European university at number five. The ranking list is compiled annually by the Jiao-Tong University in Shanghai, China.
