Professor Vanessa de Oliveira (née Andreotti) from the Faculty of Education in the University of Oulu has received a prestigious international book award in educational sciences.
The Curriculum Studies Division of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) selected Professor de Oliveira's book, 'Actionable Postcolonial Theory in Education', for the Outstanding Book Award 2012 for making a vital and original contribution to Curriculum Studies.
With more than 25,000 members, AERA is the most prominent international professional organization in educational sciences.
Professor Oliveira is the academic director of the research group EDGE (Education, Diversity, Globalisation and Ethics) at the Faculty of Education. She will receive the award at the AERA annual meeting in Vancouver, Canada, in April 2012.
Professor Oliveira also recently published an edited book entitled 'Postcolonial Perspectives on Global Citizenship Education' with Routledge (2012), and was the guest editor of a special double issue of the journal 'Globalisation Societies and Education' on the political economy of global citizenship (2011).
The awarded book was published by Palgrave MacMillan.
