Timo Koivumäki appointed as Research Professor of digital service business at the University of Oulu and VTT

Timo Koivumäki, D.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration, has been appointed as Professor at the University of Oulu with a joint appointment at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland from January 2013 onward.

The professorship focuses on the field of digital service business and forms part of the cooperation activities within the Oulu Innovation Alliance. At the University of Oulu, the position is located in the Martti Ahtisaari Institute.

Joint professorships between the University of Oulu and VTT are related to fields that fit the strategies of both partners and reinforce their mutual focus areas.

Professor Timo Koivumäki was born in 1966. He defended his PhD in 1999 and has since worked as Professor of Information and Communication Business at the University of Oulu, as Research Professor of electronic commerce, and, finally, held the position of joint Research Professor at the University of Oulu and VTT for the term 2008–2012.

Timo Koivumäki’s research has addressed e-commerce, consumer behaviour and strategic networking. In addition, he has conducted research on the effects of digitalisation of global markets, user-driven innovation and the role of the public sector in information society.

Koivumäki has participated in numerous national and international research and development projects as researcher and project manager, as well as published widely and been active in education.
