Microsoft donates one million US dollars to Finnish universities including the University of Oulu. By donating Microsoft wants to support Finnish science, research and education.
Microsoft's donation to the universities is also one of company´s Finland 100th anniversary celebrations.
- Finnish science is of great importance and, to support it, we donate a total of 1 million USD to the fundraising campaign of four Finnish universities. We want to take part in building the future of Finland, and donations to Aalto University, the University of Helsinki, the University of Oulu and the Tampere University of Technology are part of our Finland´s 100th anniversary celebration, says Max Mickelsson, Director of Government Affairs at Microsoft.
The University of Oulu is thankful for the support it has received. The University's fundraising campaign has already exceeded more than 8 million euros, and the government matched funding scheme significantly increases the value of donations made before 30 June 2017. The university's donation capital has increased since 2008 that marked the beginning of fundraising to now exceeding 50 million euros. With the return of the donation capital, the university annually distributes several millions to research projects and funds the work of a number of top scientists.
