University of Oulu donations open new doors

The University of Oulu has decided to put a significant portion of the donations it has received towards various academic fields in the years to come. The total amount raised during the 2014-2017 fundraising campaign, including state contributions, was 21 M€, of which 6.5 M€ were donations made directly to various fields of education. Donation capital will be used directly for promoting new opportunities in various academic fields. The decision is based on faculty proposals and the views expressed by donors.

In the Faculty of Technology, the University of Oulu has introduced a new Degree Programme in Civil Engineering. The degree programme is specifically intended to meet the needs of the construction and civil engineering sectors and has been planned and developed together with various actors in the construction industry. Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Riitta Keiski praises the donors: "These substantial supplementary resources for the new degree programme come from donations. Now we can realise our recruiting programme, which includes a new professorship in good indoor air and building health as well as in traffic networks and technology.  We will continue to provide education in three study areas: structural engineering and construction technology, civil engineering, building health and lifecycle engineering. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the organisations and private contributors who wanted to support making the field of technology even stronger."

The University of Oulu is grateful for all the donations it has received and university fundraising efforts will continue. The university's donation capital has grown since 2008, currently totalling 70 M€. Each year, the return on donation capital invested is put toward numerous research projects and studies. In 2019, the university celebrates its 60th anniversary, whose theme will be "For the Next Generation”. Anniversary year donations will be aimed particularly at young researchers and students.
