Northern Finland Birth Cohorts – more than 50 years of research

From the year 1965 onwards the researchers at the University of Oulu and the Oulu University Hospital have engaged with the parents and their children to study the determinants of life-long health. On the 20th of March 2019 – International day of Happiness – we will launch our next engagement with the participants of the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1986 with an open event at TellUs Innovation Arena (University of Oulu, Linnanmaa, Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu 1, door 2T).

PROGRAMME

9.00 – 15.30  Meet Cohort Center employees and try out tests performed in the Northern Finland Birth Cohort data collection (TellUs Innovation Arena)

9.00 – 9.15  Welcome and Launch of NFBC video (in Finnish and in English) Marjo-Riitta Järvelin & Minna Ruddock (TellUs Stage)

9.15 – 10.30  Round-table discussion (in Finnish). Subject: The role of population and register studies in public health. Chair: Marjo-Riitta Järvelin, participants: Anne Remes, Maritta Perälä-Heape, Heini Hakosalo, Eero Kajantie, Minna Ruddock (TellUs Stage)

11.00 – 12.00  Brown Bag lunch seminar (in English). Subject: Happiness. Speakers: Mirka Hintsanen, Faculty of Education & Sylvain Sebert, Faculty of Medicine (TellUs Stage). Please note that attending the lunch requires registration by March 18th.

12.30 – 12.45  Publishing of the Northern Finland Birth Cohorts Historic (in Finnish and in English), Maarit Jokela, Minna Ruddock, Tuula Ylitalo (TellUs Stage)

13.00 – 14.30  Posters and discussion (in Finnish and in English). Studies on population and register data. Participants are researchers from different research fields. (TellUs Stage)

15.30    End of the event
