Sustainable development Week

Monday, October 7, 2019 to Friday, October 11, 2019

Sustainability week will be held during the week number 41 – from 7th to 11th of October. During this week, we shall discuss the future, our way of life and how institutes and bigger organisations could bare their part of responsibility together with individuals to take better care of our planet. The sustainability week will be organised in collaboration with OYY and the university.


Programme of sustainability week:


Monday 7th Oct

10 AM: Opening ceremony at the green coat racks

4:30 PM: OYY sustainability training for organizations


Tuesday 8th Oct

9:15 to 9:45 AM: Professor Lassi Linnanen; Lappeenranta Technical University, will give a plenary talk (open to all): Sustainable Development as Multidisciplinary Research. Followed by discussion.

1 to 4 PM: UniOGS workshop for doctoral students, requires registration:

5 PM: Documentary movie night (slave-free chocolate) at the Botanical garden


Wednesday 9th Oct

10 AM to 2 PM: NGO market at the main lobby

10 AM to 2 PM: Sustainable research market in Tellus Linnanmaa

11 to 12 AM: Brown Bag Lunch Seminar at Linnanmaa Tellus Stage


Thursday 10th Oct

8:30 AM to 1 PM: (Only in Finnish) Tekniikan torstai: Vesi, Ilma, energia ja kiertotalous

11 to 12 AM: Brown Bag Lunch Seminar at Tellus Kontinkangas

12 AM: Panel discussion Main topic: Limits of growth: The global effects of economic growth at lecture hall L2

1 PM: Climate University workshop: local research themes; climate education and communications

1 to 4 PM: UniOGS workshop for doctoral students, requires registration:

6 PM: (only in Finnish) Arto O. Salonen public lecture

7 PM: Science Open Mic at Tuba


Friday 11th Oct

10 AM: Climate University workshop: Challenges of multidisciplinary climate education

10 AM to 4 PM: Twitter Conference, Arctic Sustainability #STARCTIC2019
