Social interaction, conversation analysis

I study social interaction in different settings and draw on conversation analysis as my research method. Currently, I focus on workplace settings and examine how break-taking activities contribute to social solidarity and support between colleagues and to the creating and sharing of work-related knowledge. I also focus on nature settings and analyse how family members construct the human–nature relationship and direct each other to conduct themselves in an appropriate way in nature.

Research projects

  • Socializing, supporting and sharing on a break: Colleague support and construction of work-related knowledge during break-taking activities at work (Finnish Work Environment Fund)
  • Break -  Interactional organisation of break-taking activities and social support in a changing workplace environment
  • Constructing the human–nature relationship: interaction and instruction in natural settings (Finnish Cultural Foundation, North Ostrobothnia Regional Fund)
  • HANS - Human activity in natural settings: nature as a site for mobility, interaction and socialization
