I have completed a PhD in Biochemistry in 2020 from the University of Oulu. I have 5 years of experience in recombinant protein production, enzymology, biophysical characterization and structural studies of complex proteins. My main research interest is to understand the structure and function of complex enzymes at molecular level and to discover structure based drugs / inhibitors / analogues. I have extended my research to study the 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase enzymes, which are involved in histone demethylation (such as lysine specific histone demethylases; KDMs) and are linked to several cancers. We have sucessfully produced and purified the full length protein of several KDMs and further research are in progress in order to determine their 3D structure, to characterize the enzymes kinetically and to discover inhibitors against KDMs which are overexpressed in cancer.
