Current issues for students
Starting Sept 18th all the student services, such as registration, study certificates, transcripts and etc., will be provided from Faculty Service Point. You will find your own faculty’s contact information here http://www.oulu.fi/university/faculty-study-affairs . General student services will thus be no longer available through Student Center. University’s cashier services will stay in Student Center for the time being. N.B. the service is available only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12-14.
In Linnanmaa campus, the Sport Passes (stickers) can be bought or picked up, when paid on-line, at the Student Union office, see the office hours here http://www.oyy.fi/en/office-hours/. The sport course fees have to be paid directly to the University’s bank account, no cash payments. See http://www.oulunkorkeakoululiikunta.fi/en/info for account info.
Go on exchange for the spring term 2018! Erasmus exchange call for Spring 2018 exchanges opens on Fri Sept 15. The deadline for applications depends on the Faculty or programme. Some Faculties or degree programmes may also have Nordplus exchange opportunities to Nordic countries. Contact your Faculty or departmental international coordinator for more information about your options. Visit also our website for Erasmus and Nordplus exchanges.
Take part in new minor studies module, Basic Business Studies, that will be carried out in academic year 2017-2018 as an online education! The module is organized together with nine other universities in Finland. The courses are open only for minor students. Students can choose to take 1-8 courses. In order to complete a full minor, at least 25 ECTS must be completed by the student. Students can sign up to the courses directly in WebOodi. In each course, there are 30 study places for students from University of Oulu. Some of the courses are offered in English, see course descriptions for further information. The main services offered by the University of Oulu and the partners will be presented for the students on Tuesday’s event News’day – Day for New Students. The 2T parking lot at Linnanmaa campus and bus stops Yliopisto P ja Yliopisto E are out of service on september 5-8th
Linnanmaa Campus 2T parking lot is closed on September 5-8th due to Vulcanalia. Also the street Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu will be closed on September 6th at 7am til September 7th at 7am. Due to closing the street the bus stops Yliopisto P ja Yliopisto E are also closed. The closest bus stops are Yliopistonkatu P/E and Ylioppilaskylä P/E.
The Student Union organises Vulcanalia, the opening party of the new academic year. The Vulcanalia day starts with Organisation Fair on Linnanmaa Campus at 10–14. During the Fair you can familiarise yourself with a variety of different kinds of student organisations and companies. Vulcanalia Evening Party kicks off at the Univeristy of Oulu Linnanmaa Campus parking lot at 20.00. N.B.: party is not at Ouluhalli as was mentioned by mistake on invitation sent last week. Students at the University of Oulu international Master Programmes are warmly invited to apply to the University of Oulu Alumni Ambassador Programme. We are looking for students who are interested in developing their communication and presentation skills, comfortable in social media and want to share their experiences with international applicants. The Sports Pass functions as an entrance ticket to all the services, training sessions as well as all the other welfare services. The pass also gives you certain discounts on some course fees and on services provided by our cooperating partners. The Sports Pass is a sticker which can be put on your Student Card, Staff ID Card or personal ID card. Read more.
Master’s Degree students of the University of Oulu are invited to apply for the Mentoring Programme 2017-2018. In the programme, you are matched with an experienced professional (mentor) who is often a University of Oulu alum to discuss topics related to career management and planning. You can book the 15 group study rooms in the library only through the O365 calendar. Instructions for this can be found on the library website. New students can order a library card in advance with an online form. Automatic renewal of loans ends on 1 September. Please remember to renew your loans.
Tuudo has the most important information for students: your own timetable and calendar markings, received credits and course registration, and also restaurant menus, campus maps, and bus timetables. Tuudo also offers information on upcoming and ongoing courses and exams. Tuudo shows the location for lecture halls and rooms, and you get up-to-date information on changes to room and teaching times. The Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY) is a student advocacy organisation for all students studying at the University of Oulu. OYY promotes a good life for students every day. University of Oulu will move to electronic exams. The possibility for examination on paper in electronic exam room has ended June 30th. New system for electronic examinations Exam is in pilot use in September and is launched in 16.10. Students can make a reservation for electronic exams and take exams in an electronic exam room and also get information on grade and feedback in Exam-system. Electronic exam rooms will open in both Linnanmaa (Examinarium) and Kontinkangas. Read more
Download digital student card Frank App in Google Play Store or App Store. The applications provides the same benefits as a normal student card, and a little bit more. All the benefits are listed at frank.fi. If you anyway want to have the sticker, it is recommended to get it after the autumnal jam. Most of the student want to get their stickers in August and September, so if you want to avoid the traffic, get your sticker from OYY office or from Student Center beginning from October.
The study grants paid to higher education students are adjusted to the level of the grants provided to students in secondary education (max. EUR 250.28 per month). Student loan amounts is raised for all students. The qualifying conditions for study grants and government guarantees for student loans has undergone numerous changes as well. Read more.
