International Avenue proudly presents: A Day Festival of Cultures and Co-operation on 3rd of April

On the 3rd of April, the International Avenue is organizing a day festival at Tellus Innovation Arena starting at 12:00. This is a festival with over 30 events happening during the day: cultural events, keynotes, presentations, exchange fair, performances (including live music), international film screening, info on research funding in Germany – and more. We will start with opening words from the Vice-Rector, Matti Sarén of the University of Oulu and Professor Ryuji Kohno from the Yokohama National University. We’ll have a lot of guests from Finland and abroad – ambassadors, partners and journalists. More info and the tentative programme.

Course feedback system is now open

University of Oulu course feedback system is open in the address https://palaute.oulu.fi/index.php?lang=en_US. Students can give course feedback for lectures, exercises, seminars, etc. which they have registered in WebOodi. The feedback system collects feedback also for itself and this feedback is used for developing the system as easy and as practical tool for feedback as possible. The system requires login with the university user name and password but the given feedback is also handled anonymously in the system. The given feedback is dealt with the teachers and also the faculties deal with the combined data. The feedback can be given from the first date of the course until three weeks after the last date.  Own feedback can be modified all the time it is open.

Financial Aid for Summer 2017

Students may receive student financial aid for those summer months during which they complete degree-related studies at least 5 ECTS credits. Financial aid can be granted e.g. for exams, internships and thesis. Financial aid can be applied e.g. for through Kela’s online services and it can be granted from beginning of the month during which the application is received. Please apply in time! Looking for EU Careers Student Ambassador

EPSO (European Personnel Selection Office) is looking for EU Careers Student Ambassador. They choose one ambassador from each University to promote EU careers and make students on campus to be aware of the vast variety of job opportunities the EU Institutions have to offer. The Ambassadors will be trained for the tasks. The position is unpaid but the expenses will be covered. This is a great opportunity to make connections, network and get information about EU careers. 030008P Information skills for foreign degree students (1 ECTS) is aimed at the international degree students of science and technology. You will learn the different phases of information retrieval process and the basic techniques of scientific information retrieval, find the most important reference databases of their discipline and know how to evaluate information sources and retrieval results.

This workshop is aimed at students and recent graduates who want to embark on a global career. Participants will gain an understanding of the role cultural differences play in CV writing and how to prepare for an international application. During this workshop, we’ll look at what employers are looking for in different countries, which application methods work best, what skills sets make employers tick, and what to mention in your CV and application letter whether it is for a job in Shanghai, Stockholm or Sydney. Workshop will be held by Nannette Ripmeester, Expertise in Labour Mobility and organised by Academic Affairs.

Applying for an extended study period

Students who have begun their studies after 1st of August, 2005, have a limited study period. If a student’s normative degree studies period is coming to its end while the student has not completed studies required for the degree, the student may apply for an extended study period. Faculty’s Chief Academic Officer submits the application to the Vice Rector for Education Helka-Liisa Hentilä, who makes decisions on extended periods. The extension must be applied for by the end of March, if the right to study expires on the 31st of July, and by the end of October if the study expires on the 31st of December. A new WebOodi version 4.4. will be installed on Tue 14.2.2017. Due to installation there is a maintenance break on 9-11 am.  During installation WebOodi is out of service. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause.

Kandipalaute – The Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey has been renewed

The Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey has been renewed. From the beginning of 2017, the survey is based on the HowULearn questionnaire developed at the University of Helsinki. The IT Center for Science CSC is now in charge of the survey’s technical implementation. All graduates will be sent an invitation by email to answer the survey. The winner of survey prize (the sauna evening at the Saarela Rantasauna) is a student of Accounting Marjut Huusko. Congratulations to the winner, and warm thanks to all survey respondents.
