Distance learning continues, access to campuses becomes easier

The University of Oulu has previously stated that the courses for the autumn term will generally be held remotely at least until the end of the 1st period, ie until 25.10.2020. If it is not possible to organize the course remotely, it can be arranged on campus taking care of safety and distances. Exams requiring attendance on campus can be arranged with safety and distance in mind.

Student loans for the autumn can be taken out starting 1 August

Kela has reviewed the student loans for students who continue their studies for the academic year 2020–2021. Decisions on student loan guarantee for the next academic year have been sent to 103 930students. The first loan disbursement can be taken out starting from the beginning of August. Study grants for the upcoming academic year will be increased by one percent.

Oulu University of Applied Sciences and the University of Oulu are combining the electronic exam system, Exam. The migration of the systems will be implemented during July 2020. A new, larger exam room will be built to Linnanmaa.

University of Oulu support for covering rental costs in PSOAS apartment

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Oulu and Pohjois-Suomen opiskelija-asuntosäätiö (PSOAS) hereby opens a call for applications for support covering rental costs in PSOAS apartment in the second year of study from 1 August 2020 to 31 July 2021 for international students. Beneficiaries are selected on the basis of academic success and social reasons.

Social assistance for foreign students in the coronavirus situation

Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, provides basic social assistance to individuals or families living or residing in Finland whose income and assets do not cover their essential daily needs, such as food and medicine. As for basic social assistance the general rule is that the amount of assistance you could potentially get depends on your available income and assets.

New library system in summer - effects on Oula-Finna

Oulu University Library will introduce a new library system this summer, and at the same time the collections of Oulu University Library and Oulu University of Applied Sciences Library will be merged into one database. The libraries are closed 27 June – 2 August 2020 due to the implementation of the new system. The updated library system will not be apparent to Oulu University Library users, since it will continue to use the familiar Oula-Finna interface. Current loan and user information is automatically transferred into the new system.

Student healthcare services for students in higher education starting 1 January 2021

Starting 1 January 2021, the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) will provide student healthcare services for all higher education students. A healthcare fee for higher education students is paid to Kela.
