Development and challenges related to sampling, analysis, removal and environmental impact assessment of microplastics

The occurrence and impact of microplastics in the environment and human health is not clear as not enough and comparable data exists about occurrence and quantification of microplastics. More accurate, faster and valid methods for microplastics analysis need to be developed for different matrices. In addition, development and dissemination of wastewater treatment and diffuse pollution control methods capable of retaining microplastics are needed to decrease loading to sensitive and over polluted ecosystems such as the Baltic Sea. Challenges related to the sampling, analysis and evaluation of environmental impacts of microplastics require a multidisciplinary approach to be overcome. To address this, in this course and workshop lecturers from different backgrounds and renown experts in their fields will provide up-to-date knowledge on microplastics related issues and will share newest results and experiences on sampling, analysis, removal and environmental impacts of microplastics.

The course will run from 3-5 of December 2019. It includes a workshop (open to the public) on the afternoon of the 3rd of December. Preliminary program can be found HERE
