TEKES funding for Biocenter Oulu and the Center for Machine Vision Research

Tekes has granted two years funding for an interdisciplinary project between Biocenter Oulu Tissue Imaging Center and the Center for Machine Vision Research, University of Oulu.

Biomedical science generates extensive amount of widely distributed, heterogenic and complex data in different formats, including digital pictures and videos.  The objective is to develop algorithm-based video image analysis tools and machine learning techniques that combine multidimensional image information with the different type of data. The developed methodology will be applied to conditions where combination of visual data with additional information would be beneficial. These include cell biological studies in 3D matrices and intelligent imaging instruments for industrial applications.

The contact persons are Academy Research Fellow Lauri Eklund and PhD Mika Kaakinen (Biocenter Oulu) and Professor Janne Heikkilä (Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Center for Machine Vision Research).
