Protein characterization

The Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and Biocenter Oulu have a wide range of state-of-the art instruments for versatile protein characterization. In the Strucbiocat project the following instruments for protein characterization have been purchased:

The funding from Regional Development Fund has also been used for purchasing a cell incubator for recombinant protein expression, especially in insect cells and for improving the computer infrastructure.

In addition, several other instruments are available in the Proteomics and protein analysis and protein crystallography core facilities (see link), such as

  • mass spectrometers
  • instrumentation for proteomics
  • CD spectrometry (secondary structure prediction for proteins)
  • Biacore for surface plasmon resonance (real time biomolecular interaction studies)
  • Static Light Scattering (SLS) (analysis of native size of proteins after protein purification)
