About us

The Kajaani University Consortium (KUC) is a networked academic community focused on scientific research, university teaching and community relations. The objective is to intensify cooperation between the universities and to develop collaboration with regional universities of applied sciences, business and commerce.

The Kajaani University Consortium consists of four networked universities (Eastern Finland, Lapland, Jyväskylä and Oulu) that have units in Kajaani and Sotkamo. The Consortium is coordinated by University of Oulu.

Organization and management

Kajaani University Consortium is a separate unit under the Management Rule of the University of Oulu, which includes the Unit of Measurement Technology and Adult and Continuing Education Services AIKOPA's university part.

The consortium of higher education in Kajaani

Kajaani University Consortium, a department of University of Oulu and Kajaani University of Applied Sciences form together the consortium of higher education in Kajaani, which is a joint model to coordinate collaboration in strategy and activities in Kainuu area. The aim of the consortium activity is to raise the level of quality, impact , competitivity and appeal of the higher education, research and development actions in the area.

By this joint model to coordinate collaboration in strategy and activities both partners ensure the smoothness of collaboration. Resources are allocated according to jointly set goals. Even though both organisations act as independent actors having their own profiles, their own model of diplomas and tasks, they collaborate tightly.

Finnish university consortiums

The university consortiums complement the University Field of Finland in those areas that do not have their own university and assemble university activities operating in the region. Universities of applied sciences, municipalities and provincial union in the region are also often involved in cooperation.
