Research on Software Engineering and Information Systems
The Department of Information Processing Science was established at the University of Oulu in 1969. Today the Department is one of the biggest unit at the University of Oulu. There are round 800 masters students and 60 Ph.D. students studying at the Department. Department's personnel is 25% international. Number of international students is round 70 and it represents over 15 nationalities.
Research partners
Companies have a strong role in our research cooperation. Most of the funding for the research projects comes from public sources such as the European Union, Tekes (Technical Research Centre of Finland) and the Academy of Finland. In addition to international and small IT companies are involved in research projects which makes it possible to share research knowledge into use of the industry. Both VTT and companies in the near by technology park, the first in the Nordic countries have strong cooperation with the University of Oulu and our Department. We have good contacts with several European, North American, Australian and Japanese universities and research institutes through various international projects.
