University of Oulu allocated doctoral training positions to emerging research themes – within the context of the four strategic focus institutes Biocenter Oulu, Eudaimonia, Infotech and Kvantum.
The new program is targeted to projects led by starting group leaders who build an association between their own emerging research and top research project (encompassing centres of excellence, European Research Council´s projects, academy professors´ projects and focus institute spearhead projects). The aim of the program is to support the emerging projects' group leaders and to give them a possibility to develop alongside internationally top-level research.
The focus institutes will include the emerging project leaders in all their activities such as project leader meetings and brain storming. 4-year doctoral student positions (with partial funding) will be allocated to each focus institute for 2018-2022.
The Doctoral Training Committees formed the evaluation committees and made the selection of the funded projects.
The selected Emerging projects (in alphabetical order) to Biocenter Oulu for a period of 2018 – 2022:
Magga, Johanna: Growth factor signaling in myocardial stress and fibrosis
Patanen, Minna: SoftXMed: Soft X-ray spectromicroscopy for medical tissue samples
