The object of the research carried out in physical geography is to ascertain the present state of the natural environment with respect to the relationship between man and nature, to analyze the processes taking place in nature and to map their regional occurrence.
Areas in which this research is carried out include the fjeld area of Lapland, the shores of Lake Oulujärvi and the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia.
The research has a theoretical and empirical basis and is carried out in the form of projects involving undergraduates and postgraduate students with their supervising teachers.
