Classical Languages and Cultures is a two-faced minor subject (25 + 35 ECTS both in Latin language & Literature and in Greek language & Literature = 120 ECTS) and a part of a multidisciplinary programme which offers the student a varied and comprehensive perspective on the various characters of the Ancient World, of its history and culture, this minor giving a solid knowledge on several languages, demanded for adequate means for interpreting the original historical sources in Latin, Greek and Italic languages. This historically orientated minor linguistic subject, or, if one prefers, linguistically orientated historical subject, object of research already for more than 2400 years by now, is intended for all students at the University of Oulu.
East and Southeast Asian Studies is a basic studies minor (25 ECTS) offered for students who have been accepted for national Asian studies programme by Finnish University Network for East and Southeast Asian Studies (http://www.asianet.fi). The programme starts in January each year and stretches from spring term to autumn term. Application period is in autumn term.
Torus network was founded to assemble the educational and research activities in Finland. The goal is to create a general view of the scientific community of the past and the present by using multidisciplinary expertise.
Torus offers a possibility to participate and to study the field regardless of location. A student may take individual courses, or the whole basic studies module (25 ECTS). Torus studies give tools for analyzing the relations between science, technology and society. Torus studies have been developed to combine diverse forms of both distance and contact learning using latest education technology.
Japanese Studies is a multidisciplinary programme which offers the student a varied and comprehensive perspective on the unique character of Japanese culture and language. The programme is intended for all students at the University of Oulu. Japanese Studies is implemented by the Department of Architecture and the Department of History. Both departments maintain their own computer registers of respective studies.
