I have worked as a Postdoctoral research fellow at Thule Institute and now at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Oulu. My PhD thesis dealt with “Baltic Sea ice and its environmental and societal implications on coastal waters of the Bay of Bothnia and the Gulf of Riga” (nov.2009, Geophen, University of Caen - Lower-Normandy, France). I have a physical geography background that I tried to combine with human aspects of the discipline within my doctoral thesis. I am very interested in the relationships between environment and societies in the circumpolar areas and I am currently involved in projects dealing with climate change, tourism and mining activities and community-related issues.
I have worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Caen – Lower-Normandy, France and as a teaching and research assistant at the University of Le Havre, France. Most recently I have lectured at the Department of Geography of the University of Oulu.
