ECTS GUIDES AND COURSES OFFERED IN ENGLISH
ECT GuidesECTS* Guides are study guides of the University of Oulu in English. Each faculty of the University of Oulu has its own ECTS Guide although the general information is the same in all of them. Guides consist of four parts: 1) Information on the University of Oulu 2) General Information for Students 3) General Description on Studies in the Faculty and 4) More Information on the Degree Programmes. The guides are written in English. Please note that this does not mean that all teaching is in English. Always check the language of teaching of a particular course in the guide and confirm this with the international coordinator in the department as language of instruction (English/Finnish) may depend on the needs of students registered for the course. The ECTS Guides can be found in the WebOodi system. WebOodi contains all study guides and can be browsed by anyone. Students of the University of Oulu can also use it for registering for courses and exams and browsing the courses they have completed for instance.

* The abbreviation ECTS stands for the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. It is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme, objectives specified in terms of the learning outcomes and competences to be acquired. ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits measure the workload of a full-time student during one academic year. The student workload of a full-time study programme in Europe amounts in most cases to around 1500-1800 hours per year and in those cases one credit stands for around 25 to 30 working hours.
