Doctoral Program

Thule DP is one of the University of Oulu's UniOGS doctoral programs, focusing on natural resources, environment and northern issues. It deepens the doctoral students’ understanding in their field of research and helps them to achieve the abilities to independently and critically apply the methods of scientific and artistic research to create new scientific knowledge.

Thule DP is built on the platform of the Thule Institute’s research programs. The underlining drive for the DP is change in the North and the need to study its impact on ecosystems and societies.

ThuleDP has three main themes:

  • Climate Change Dynamics, Impacts and Adaptation
  • Sustainable Resources Management
  • Human Health and Community Wellbeing.

The DP promotes collaboration between complementary research teams in Finland and abroad/internationally. This includes collaboration between doctoral students and supervisors at the joint meetings and in students’ follow-up groups. This integration is promoted by student exchange and visits through e.g. participation in international joint courses. The DP also benefits from the Institute’s international and national education and research networks.
