Thule DP operates actively in national and international higher education and research networks. Close cooperation is also carried out with research institutes operating in the field of the Thule DP.
On national level, major partner networks in cooperation are NorNet and LYNET, which are operating in the field of natural resources and their management, including human aspects.
On international level, partner networks in cooperation are e.g. Barents Cross Border University, University of Arctic with its networks, and Nordforsk Top-level Research Initiative “Effect studies and adaptation to climate change” Network on “People and Ecosystems in a changing environment”.
Network “People and Ecosystems in a changing environment” forms also the basis for the international PhD Program on Health and Well-being, which is led by Thule. The international PhD program is part of the Thule DP study area Human Health and Community Wellbeing. The partners are universities of Alberta and Manitoba in Canada, Alaska Anchorage in USA, Akureyri in Iceland, Aarhus in Denmark, Umeå in Sweden, Tromsø in Norway, and universities of Lapland and Oulu in Finland. Partners from the sphere of research institutes are Abisko Scientific Research Station in Sweden, National Health Service in Greenland, Finnish Meteorological Institute, and Sámisoster in Finland.
In addition to the wide partner network of the University of Oulu, Thule Institute has bilateral agreement on Graduate Student Research Exchange with University of Alberta and its Canadian Circumpolar Institute. Based on this agreement, the exchange doctoral students of Thule Institute, University of Oulu will be granted the “Research 900” status at the University of Alberta, Canada which gives student for example an access to the library. Other agreements of Thule Institute include e.g. an agreement with the University of Tromsø in Norway, University of Umeå and Luleå University of Technology in Sweden, and Northern (Arctic) Federal University in Arkhangelsk, Russia, including doctoral student supervision and mobility.
