Earth Day at the Linnanmaa campus

Want to live more sustainably, but not sure where to start? Participate in the community event organised in honour of the international Earth Day on April 24, Monday, 11:30-13:00 and get a few tips to get you started!

The event program offers concrete ideas as well as guidance on how to make your daily life more sustainable. Get familiar with the University’s new recommendations for digital cleanups of your devices, learn how to repair your knitted items or make new ones, get your bike ready for summer with the help of our students, and more! The event is free and open to all. Please note that the bike maintenance point is already open at 11:00!

Event program:

  • Information about Earth Day and concrete actions everyone can take to contribute;
  • Earth Day-related quizzes: How much do you know about our Earth? Test your knowledge and win a reusable mug (sponsored by Juvenes);
  • Bike maintenance point: maintain your own bike free of charge and get it ready for summer! (in collaboration with the Konekilta student guild, PLEASE NOTE: the maintenance point is open 11:00-13:00 and is located between the 2S and R doors, please refer to the map);
  • Knitting workshop: how to repair your old knitted items yourself quickly and easily (in collaboration with the student-led Knitting Circle club);
  • Introduction to the new University guidelines and recommendations for digital cleanups of computers and mobile devices. Digital waste (unnecessary emails, old apps and files, duplicates of photos and videos, etc.) needs to be deleted regularly to minimise the negative environmental impact. Learn how to do the cleanups quickly and efficiently, and make it a part of your routine;
  • Information about the University of Oulu’s Sustainability minor studies available to all degree and exchange students;

The event has been included in the official Earth Day 2023 program. As of now, this is the only official Earth Day event in Northern Finland.

Earth Day is an international annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
