Advanced Statistical Ecology

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

• apply advanced statistical analysis techniques to ecological data
• demonstrate practical skills in handling real-world ecological datasets
• implement reproducible research workflows in ecological studies

The course combines lectures, hands-on coding sessions in the R programming language, and group-based exercises. Students will work with real-world datasets to explore a wide range of statistical tools, from foundational concepts to advanced techniques. Topics include hierarchical modelling, linear and mixed models, and Bayesian approaches.

Each day includes:

• a theoretical introduction
• a hands-on exercise
• a critical group discussion
• application of the concept to the student’s own dataset
