Education description
This seminar will introduce the participants to data studies, an exciting, emerging field of study that focuses on the increasingly central role of digital data in contemporary business and society. Drawing from a variety of methods and philosophical perspectives, data studies cover a wide range of topics and phenomena related to how data are created, used, and managed within and between organizations.
The seminar will be taught by Aleksi Aaltonen, Associate Professor at the School of Business, Stevens Institute of Technology, USA. He holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Aleksi uses quantitative, qualitative and computational methods to study new forms of organizing and innovation based on digital data and platforms. His publications have appeared in Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Organization Studies, and in other high-quality journals. Additionally, he serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief at the Journal of Information Technology and maintains the Data Studies Bibliography (https://datastudiesbibliography.org).
