Education description

This practical course provides hands-on training and principles on the best practices for sample preparation for cryoEM single particle analysis of biological macromolecules. The course is mainly intended for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers who are using or will be using cryoEM in their research work. The course constitutes lectures as well as practical training on sample preparation in Vitrobot as well as screening of the prepared samples in cryogenic transmission electron microscope Tundra at the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, University of Oulu. The course is organized with the support of Health and Biosciences Doctoral Program (HBS-DP) of the University of Oulu.

The course will be organized as an onsite event. There is a possibility for the selected participants to bring their own samples for sample preparation and analysis. Selected participants will be provided with some small tasks to prepare for the course. Details communicated upon selection.

Practical sessions are limited to registered participants while lectures are open to a wider audience.

Apply before 16th May 2025. A maximum of ten participants will be accepted for the course. There is no registration fee for the course.

Confirmed speakers:

Dr. Dustin Morado, Stockholm University, Sweden

Dr. Esa-Pekka Kumpula, University of Helsinki, Finland

Dr. Eaazhisai Kandiah, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, France
