The CMC-Corpora Conference brings together language-centered research on computer-mediated communication (CMC) and social media across linguistics, philologies, communication and media studies, foreign language teaching and learning, and the social sciences. It also welcomes work at the intersection of these fields with corpus and computational linguistics, language and text technology, and machine learning.
The focus lies both on studies using computational and empirical methods to analyze language use in CMC and social media, and on research addressing the creation, processing, annotation, representation, and integration of CMC and social media corpora within digital research infrastructures.
We adopt a broad definition of CMC and social media, encompassing a wide range of digital communication platforms, including email, forums, chat and messenger applications (e.g. WhatsApp, Telegram), social networking and content-sharing platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, 𝕏/Twitter), video portals (e.g. YouTube), online gaming environments, and communication spaces within learning platforms and virtual worlds.
