As Arctic destinations attract increasing international attention, tourism is becoming an important driver of economic development, cultural exchange, and regional visibility. At the same time, questions arise regarding sustainability, environmental impacts, local communities, and the long-term management of tourism growth.
The discussion will examine what Arctic tourism means in practice, how Oulu is connected to wider Arctic tourism networks, and what future developments may look like in the region. Panelists will share insights from current research and discuss topics such as sustainable tourism development, changing visitor trends, climate change, and the role of cities in Arctic tourism.
No prior knowledge of the topic is required. The discussion will be held in English and includes an opportunity for audience questions. The event is open to everyone interested in tourism, sustainability, regional development, and the future of Northern Finland.
