Brown Bag Seminar: Collaborating for a healthier future

What would planetary wellbeing look like? How do our collective choices shape the wellbeing of individuals, communities, and ecosystems? In this event we look at health and wellbeing holistically from the growing challenges of digital wellbeing and the impact of problematic social media use to the vital insights of Arctic One Health research that link human, animal, and environmental health in the North. With a spotlight on collaboration across European and Arctic research networks, this seminar invites a timely discussion about how we can build healthier futures through shared knowledge, meaningful partnerships, and a holistic view of health in a rapidly changing world.

Welcome to attend this year’s last Brown Bag seminar on Wed 3rd of December at 11 am to hear about health and wellbeing research that builds a healthier future for all and about exciting opportunities for international research collaboration through the European university UNIC and Arctic networks. This seminar’s research presentations will be given by Postdoctoral Researcher Krista Hylkilä from the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology and Postdoctoral Researcher Anna Rönkä from the
Research Unit of Biomedicine and Internal Medicine. Research collaboration and networking opportunities will be presented by Project Manager Marian Tumanyan from the European university UNIC and Research Director Kirsi Latola from the Thule Institute.

Postdoctoral Researcher Hylkilä will discuss digital wellbeing, focusing on the problematic use of social media and its impact on psychosocial wellbeing. Her presentation will emphasize the need for support and treatment for young adults struggling with excessive social media use.

Postdoctoral Researcher Rönkä will explore health issues through the lens of the One Health approach, highlighting the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental wellbeing in the Arctic. Her presentation will provide an overview of current health challenges and risks in the region, complemented by insights from ongoing research.

We will also hear about a variety of research networks offering European and Arctic collaboration opportunities:

Project Manager Tumanyan will present research collaboration opportunities within the European university UNIC’s thematic networks, including the upcoming conference Institutions in Transition: Justice, Security, and Well-Being in Post-Industrial Cities. The call for submission for this conference is open until 1st of December – please consider submitting your proposal before the deadline and joining this Brown Bag seminar to hear more!

Research Director Latola will highlight Arctic collaboration possibilities through the University of Oulu’s networks Arctic Six and the University of the Arctic (UArctic) and share information about the forthcoming UArctic congress themed Healthy Humans and Oceans in the Arctic.

The seminar will take place on Wednesday 3rd of December from 11 am to 12.30 pm at Tellus Stage on Linnanmaa campus. Lunch will be provided for those who register by Monday 1st of December at 12 pm. The seminar will be in English.
