Campus as a Stage After Work: Live action role-playing game Hortus Obscurus

This time, at the Campus as a Stage After Work event, participants get to immerse themselves in entirely new characters and worlds through live action role-playing. The game is organized by Studio Korppikela ry.

Hortus Obscurus is a live action role-playing game that draws its themes from Lovecraftian mythos and cosmic horror. The game offers intrigue and secrets, echoes of history, and a generous dose of occultism for about 40 participants. The game will be held in English at the University of Oulu's botanical garden on February 7, 2026.

"The year is 1929. Following a volcano eruption near the coast of South America, an entirely new island has been spotted. And this is not all - the land that should’ve been barren and lifeless rock has bloomed with life seen not elsewhere in Earth. The Miskatonic University has spared no expense to be there first, before their academic rivals. But - were they truly the first?"

In 2026, the University of Oulu will organize a year-long Campus as a Stage event series, the purpose of which is to showcase the broad cultural expertise of our university community and bring culture to the everyday life of our campuses and to a wider audience. The series includes culture lunches, culture lectures, After Work events, various exhibitions and community art works, and art tours of the university's art collections.
