Get to Know the Couchsurfing Oulu & co. (CS Oulu) Community!
Join us to learn about the CS Oulu group – its people, activities, and history. We’ll share stories and photos from past events.
Background:
Founded in 2013 by local Couchsurfing hosts and travelers, CS Oulu started with weekly meetups. Over time, it evolved into an open community for anyone interested in meeting new people, sharing cultures, and having fun together.
Who’s Involved:
A diverse mix of participants including:
- Couchsurfing hosts
- International students (UniOulu & OUAS)
- PhD researchers, university staff, expats
- Locals of all ages – from babies to seniors (~75 years old)
- Past participants include au pairs, volunteers, and more
- In 2025, people from 31 nationalities have joined events. Typical attendance is 5–10 people per event, with a core group attending regularly and others joining occasionally.
Values & Atmosphere:
Everyone is welcome! The group promotes cultural unity and diversity, and does not tolerate discrimination of any kind. The spirit of Couchsurfing aligns well with the values of the University of Oulu.

The event is open for all and does not require pre-registration.
The University of Oulu, in collaboration with Oulu University of Applied Sciences, the Student Union of the University of Oulu, and the Student Union of Oulu University of Applied Sciences, is organizing the Festival of Cultures week to celebrate our multicultural community in Oulu and promote cultural awareness. The events of the week are open to everyone interested. We expect all participants to demonstrate respectful behavior and consideration for others. Any kind of discriminatory behavior is not tolerated at our events.
