This month, the HI Ethics Forum presentation will be held only in Finnish, organized in collaboration with the Finnish Philosophical Society (SFY). The hybrid event will take place at the House of Sciences and Letters (Tieteiden talo), Helsinki, and on Zoom on Wednesday 24.9.2025, at 16:15 (Room: 505).

Speaker: VTT Susanne Uusitalo, Hybrid Intelligence reseach programme, University of Oulu.

Abstract of the presentation:

Social media and the increasing digitalization of everyday life influence how people interact socially and behave. This has partly been seen as a result of digital technology distancing us from one another. In my presentation, I examine the significance of this phenomenon in research ethics when artificial intelligence is used in research practices. In AI ethics, questions of responsibility are widely discussed, and many gaps in accountability have been identified. I ask how responsibility, in accordance with research ethics and the fundamental principles of good scientific practice, should be understood in this context.
