Kummacon is a popular culture and literature festival that has been organized since 2015, with core its themes including literature with rainbow topics, cosplay, games, as well as Western and Japanese pop culture. Every year, Kummacon brings people together from across Oulu, nearby regions, and different parts of Finland. At the event, visitors can, for example, compete in cosplay costumes, participate lectures on various fandoms ranging from musicals to manga, warm up their vocal cords in the karaoke room, and enjoy all the other con buzz! Kummacon is free of charge, and in 2023 it also became Finland’s first rainbow literature festival. The rainbow themes are especially visible in the choice of guests of honor: over the years, Kummacon has hosted, among others, J.S. Meresmaa, Finlandia Prize winner Magdalena Hai, and Sini Helminen.
More detailed program and theme of the event will be announced later. Call for Kummacon volunteering is open, sign up now! Call for program creators will open later.
In 2026, Kummacon will be organized as part of the University of Oulu’s Campus as a Stage event series and the univeristy's culture programme. The event is produced by Studio Korppikela ry, an informal film crew primarily made up of students, specializing in independent film production
