Abstract
This lecture explores how capacity sharing can strengthen resilience and sustainability in the Arctic through collaboration between communities, policymakers, and researchers. Drawing on examples from recent projects such as CAP-SHARE, the talk highlights the role of community engagement, Indigenous knowledge, and knowledge co-creation in addressing biodiversity, climate, and educational challenges. The lecture also reflects on how these approaches can inspire more inclusive and resilient futures in the Arctic and beyond.
Bio
Pigga Keskitalo is Professor of Education, specifically in Arctic perspectives in education at the University of Lapland, Finland, and Docent in Multicultural Education at the University of Helsinki. She is Professor II at the Sámi allaskuvla. Her expertise lies in Arctic education, Sámi education, and Indigenous pedagogies, with a special focus on decolonial and responsive approaches in teaching. She currently leads several international and national projects, including LINCOSY (Research Council of Finland) on linguistically responsive teaching and LOHKANLIHKKU (Interreg Aurora) on Sámi language teaching and digital gamification solution creation, and is a partner in CAP-SHARE (Interreg NPA) on biodiversity and climate resilience and REBOUND (SRC) on green transition and intergenerational justice. Her research emphasizes community engagement, capacity sharing, and knowledge co-creation in education.
