Special Guest event with Assoc. prof. Elias Tsakas: Measuring beliefs in Economics

Welcome to hear the Special Guest lecture "Measuring beliefs in Economics" by Associate Professor Elias Tsakas (Maastricht University) on October 26, 13:00-15:00 at Stage, Linnanmaa campus. The event is open to students, researchers, staff, and anyone interested in economics, decision-making, and behavioral research.

Abstract

In recent years the use of beliefs in mainstream economics has surged. This is a rather major development, as Economics has traditionally relied almost exclusively on observable choice data. In this talk we will briefly discuss the implications of using belief data in economics, and subsequently we will focus on a major issue that arises from this development: namely, how can we measure individual beliefs in a reliable way?

Elias Tsakas is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Microeconomics and Public Economics (MPE) and PhD Director within the Graduate School of Business and Economics (GSBE) at Maastricht University. His research interests focus e.g., on Game Theory, Decision Theory, and Behavioral Economics. His visit to the University of Oulu is funded by the Frontiers of Arctic and Global Resilience (FRONT) Profi7 research programme and hosted by Oulu Business School / Evangelos Mourelatos.
