Purpose

Timely completion is in the interest of both supervisors and doctoral researchers. However, research rarely proceeds exactly as planned, and challenges such as uncertainty, reduced motivation, or interpersonal tensions may disrupt progress and require careful supervisory support.

In this workshop, participants will receive research-informed and practical strategies for supporting doctoral candidates’ progress and well-being throughout the PhD process. Particular attention will be given to early planning, identifying early warning signs, strengthening candidates’ self-efficacy, and managing critical moments in a constructive and supportive manner. The workshop will also explore how supervisors can address potential conflicts and difficult situations through clear communication and early intervention.

Target group

The workshop is aimed at doctoral supervisors at the university. It is relevant to participate whether you have already supervised one or several doctoral researchers or are new to supervision.

Time and location

The course takes place online on 24 September 2027, 09:00-12:00. Participants will receive a Zoom link after registration.

General information

The course is offered in English. The teaching is highly interactive based on a combination of group work, exercises, plenary discussions, and lectures.
