Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering - Why should you choose Artificial Intelligence Track

Artificial intelligence (AI) is finally advancing at an accelerating pace after decades of stagnation. Even though AI is a few decades in, the impact that AI has created in society is undeniable. Studying AI specialization will open a world full of opportunities to develop a multitude of applications in different domains.

Overview of the Computer Science and Engineering programme

If you are in search of the in-demand and most exciting career in the next few decades, a Computer Science Master's degree with an AI specialization would be a good start!

The master's programme in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Oulu has four study options to choose from or even a mix between, namely Artificial Intelligence (AI), Applied Computing (AC) and Computer Engineering (CE) and Cyber Security. Once you get admitted to the programme, you have two weeks to select your specialization.

Each specialization has an average of sixty mandatory credits; the rest is optional studies which you can choose from any of the study areas. Although you have plenty of time to choose your specialization, I would advise doing your research well in advance. In this blog, I will share my experience from the point of view of an AI specialization student.

Who should choose Artificial Intelligence specialisation?

Well, I would argue anyone who wants to study AI can opt for it. The Artificial Intelligence specialisation focuses on various fields of AI, such as Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Data Mining. Most of the courses in AI require a basic level of programming knowledge and a Mathematical foundation.

As an AI engineer, you will work on real-life challenges and develop solutions that deeply impact society. So, the bottom line is you should choose AI specialisation if you want to know how to develop, program and train the complex networks of algorithms which helps to solve social and business challenges.

The University of Oulu's Artificial Intelligence research and development spans a broad spectrum of topics, including computer vision, emotion AI, Applied AI, robotics, edge computing, and AI applications in medicine, industry, and the environment. More than 200 researchers are working in different AI areas at the University of Oulu.

Artificial intelligence (AI) research has a rich history at the University of Oulu. The Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS), the very first AI research organization at the university was founded in 1981. Additionally, the University collaborates with the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) in three areas, including AI for health, computer vision, and edge AI.
