The European Academic Symposium on EAF Steelmaking (EASES) was held for the sixth time, this time in Ljubljana, Slovenia on the 11-13 June 2025. The symposium focused on the EAF modelling, simulation and efficiency; EAF slags and their valorization; use of fossil-free raw materials; process control and sensors as well as CO2 emissions reduction and environmental impact. More than 30 scientific presentation were given during the conference. The quality of the presented studies was ensured by the scientific committee, which included associate professor Ville-Valtteri Visuri and doctor Matti Aula from Finland.

Process metallurgy research unit from the University of Oulu was among the most active contributors and four different studies were presented by the unit's personnel. Doctoral researcher Areej Javed gave two presentations ("Kinetic modeling of hematite reduction by hydrogen plasma smelting reduction in laboratory scale" and "Optimization based experimental design of metal-slag experiments in hydrogen plasma smelting reduction process"), whereas doctoral researcher Ankur Agnihotri gave a presentation on "Modeling the Thermal Properties of H-DRI During Melting in an Electric Arc Furnace" and university lecturer Eetu-Pekka Heikkinen presented a study on "Mass and energy based modelling of EAF steelmaking scenarios using scrap and hydrogen reduced DRI as raw materials".

The 7th EASES will be held in 2027.
