The application period for becoming a tutor or kummi for the 2026–2027 academic year opens on 7 January 2026

As a tutor or kummi, you will be doing meaningful work to support new students.

Student tutors and kummi students help new degree and exchange students take their first steps in university studies. They introduce students to university life, the campus, and fellow students – making the start of their studies smoother and more enjoyable.

Any Oulu University student who is responsible, motivated, and ready to commit to the role can apply to become a tutor or an exchange student’s kummi. Tutors and kummis guide new students in small groups at the beginning of the academic year, with the tutoring period focusing especially on early autumn.

Tutors and kummis receive training for their role as well as support throughout the tutoring process. They also receive compensation for their work.

The application period for becoming a tutor or kummi for the next academic year opens on 7 January 2026. More information about the application and the form, once the application opens, can be found on the university’s website. The pages will be updated during December.
