Bachelor’s Graduate Survey 2024 results published – The University of Oulu’s results at a good level

When considering all the questions and themes of the Bachelor’s Graduate Survey, the University of Oulu has performed particularly well in statements such as “Students support each other and try to give help when it is needed” and “Talking with other students has helped me understand things better.” On a scale of 1 to 5, the average of those answers is 4.2. Averages of 4.1 were achieved in the statements “I feel comfortable at my university” and “When needed, I have found a person whom to ask for help.”
The University of Oulu has room for improvement, especially in providing feedback, as the average scores were quite low (3.3) for statements “I have received enough feedback about my learning” and “The feedback given on my work has helped me to improve my ways of learning and studying.” The statement “The feedback I received from the teaching staff has helped me with my studies” was rated with an average of 3.5.
When the respondents were asked to evaluate how likely they would recommend studying at their university to others (scale 0–10), the University of Oulu achieved an average score of 8.22.
The survey consists of over 90 questions, 13 of which are part of the universities’ funding model (the funding model questions). 3 % (over 50 million euros annually) of the basic funding by the Ministry of Education and Culture to the universities is allotted based on the Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey. The average scores for these questions have remained at a good level or even improved in 2024. In the 2024 survey, the University of Oulu achieved an average score of 3.84 and in 2023, the average was 3.76. In 2024, the best average scores for the funding model questions (4.0) were achieved by Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) and the University of the Arts Helsinki.
Activities are being developed based on the feedback
The results of the Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey 2024 have been discussed at the meeting of the Education Management Group on April 23, 2025. The Education committees and Degree programme committees of the faculties analyse the results and make decisions on development measures, which are carried out based on the results.
At the University of Oulu, a total of 1606 students responded to the Bachelor’s Graduate Survey in 2024, with the total number of respondents in Finland being 14 208. All students answer the Bachelor’s Graduate Survey once during their studies. All Bachelor’s degree graduates respond to the survey upon completing an electronic application for degree certificate in the Valo system.
Students in degree programmes in medicine and dentistry, where Bachelor’s degree is not taken, receive the survey once a year in the autumn after approximately four years of studies.
