Beware of scam calls made in the name of the police
Remember that the police, banks or any other legal actors never ask for people’s banking or identification information over the phone or video. The police urge people to exercise caution whenever an outsider asks for such information. In Finland, the police do not make video calls to people.
On Google Meet, you can block unknown contacts by adjusting the settings to allow calls from your own contacts only.
If you suspect that you have given your personal information or transferred funds to a criminal actor, contact your bank immediately. After that report the matter to the police.
The Finnish police have warned that these increasingly sophisticated scams particularly target foreign nationals living in Finland. Scammers may use pressure, threats and a sense of urgency to to make the victim give their payment or identification information to the scammer.
