The board approved the financial statements for 2024 and appointed the vice rectors for research and cooperation

At its meeting on 29 April 2025, the Board of Directors the University of Oulu approved the financial statements of the University of Oulu and the university group. Professor Matti Latva-aho was elected as the new Vice Rector for Research and Vice President Petteri Alahuhta as Vice Rector for Cooperation for the term 1.7.2025–30.6.2030.

The operating result of the University of Oulu for the financial year 2024 is EUR 31,636,218.07 in profit and the operating result of the University of Oulu Group is EUR 32,930,130.28 in profit. Good operating result were affected by good return on investments, along with improved operational result. The operating result for the financial year showed a loss of EUR 6,809,197, which was approximately EUR 5 million better than budgeted. The financial statements and annual report of the University of Oulu are published after the University Collegium has confirmed the financial statements.

In addition, the board reviewed the University of Oulu's long-term financial and operational plan (PTS), which is prepared for the next five years.

The board elected Dr.Sc.(Tech.) Matti Latva-aho, Professor of Digital Transmission Techniques at the University of Oulu, as the Vice Rector for Research. The Board appointed Ph.D. Petteri Alahuhta, who is currently the Vice President of the Cognitive Industry research area at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, as Vice President for Cooperation. Six people applied for the position of Vice Rector for Research and sixteen for the position of Vice Rector for Cooperation in the open application process from 7 to 28 February 2025.
