Call for Master's thesis scholarships SEIS/IPS/BA-IPS students 2025-2026
Degree Programme in Information Processing Science and Software Engineering and Information Systems is built on world-class research in various fields of information technology, including software engineering development and practices, user-centered design and development and persuasive design, etc. The research is carried out in three units: Empirical Software Engineering in Software, Systems and Services (M3S), Human-Computer Interaction and Human Centered Development (INTERACT) and Oulu Advanced Research on Service and Information Systems (OASIS).
The ITEE Faculty offers four scholarships of 3000 € for Master’s thesis works started during the year 2025, aiming for graduation in the spring semester 2026.
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, the applicant must satisfy the following conditions:
1. The applicant has obtained at least 60 credit points during the academic year 2024-2025 (by 31.7.2025).
2. The applicant has not previously received any financial support for the Master’s thesis work, nor should the candidate have a concurrent employment relationship during the scholarship term at University of Oulu, i.e. for a period of 6 months starting from the date the scholarship is awarded (i.e. paid), to the recipient, as the scholarship is mean to support full-time work on the Master’s Thesis.
The applicant should have a preliminary thesis topic and commitment from the main supervisor before applying. The main supervisor must be from one of the above listed research units (M3S, INTERACT, OASIS). The supervision relationship is established in LATURI.

1. Latest transcript of records;
2. Motivation letter describing briefly your preliminary thesis topic;
3. Copy of email from the supervisor indicating the topic and commitment to supervise the thesis.
Late applications cannot be considered.
Note: The decisions will be made in early October, soon after the call’s deadline. The scholarship is paid after the applicant’s Master’s thesis topic application has been duly processed and approved in LATURI, according to the current guidelines. Payment will be processed between the decision date and no later than January 15, 2026. Exceptions to this deadline may apply, at the degree programme’s own discretion. The Faculty reserves the right to define the final number of scholarships awarded to each Degree Programme, regardless of the number of applications submitted, according to the yearly available budget, and other foreseen and/or unforeseen circumstances, as applicable
